New Bern High NJROTC is one of only two programs in North Carolina with an active sailing program. Open to all cadets, prospective sailing team members must be able to pass a basic swimming test and be willing to dedicate the necessary time for classroom learning after school and time on the water at Bridgeton Marina. Classroom training is once a week from 1500 until 1630 and sailing days normally are on Mondays from 1500 until 1900 (includes transportation time to and from the harbor). Cadets who complete the training successfully earn their ASA sailing certification log-book, the right to wear the blue & gold sailor shoulder cord, and the Sea Cruise ribbon. Contact the sailing team commander (Chris Wheeler) - for more info on the program.
